Nominated as an AWS London role model by Jennifer Fowler
Madeleine Heggs qualified as a solicitor in 1955, set up her own practice and was the first woman and first practising solicitor to be appointed a Social Security Commissioner. Jennifer has nominated her stating, “I first met Madeleine in 1979 and worked closely with her as a legal assistant for the whole of her career in the Commissioners’ office. She was a committee member of the AWS for many years and an inspirational figure to me and I am sure to others. She is a person who believed in working hard and maintaining high standards but is kind and always had time to help others”. Madeleine worked in the law until she retired at the age of 72.
